The Jersey Shore Sea Kayak Association (JSSKA) is sponsoring this Greenland paddle making class. For insurance purposes, you must be a current member of the JSSKA group in order to participate.
Want to join the growing number of kayakers using those funny looking sticks to propel their kayaks? Learn the art of crafting your very own wooden Greenland Paddle in this comprehensive 6-hour class. Participants will start with a pre-carved paddle blank and be guided through each step of the paddle making process, resulting in a handcrafted traditional paddle. Space is limited so reserve your place quickly.
No special skills are required. All that's required from you is your dedication, attention, and a willingness to make a lot of wood shavings. By the end of the class, you will have the satisfaction of taking home your very own Greenland paddle, ready to be finished, used, and admired. Don't miss this opportunity to learn a timeless skill and create a unique piece of craftsmanship. Unleash your creativity and take the next step to pure paddling perfection!
We will begin by discussing the importance of sizing and the various shaping options to consider when creating a paddle. Next, a demonstration will be provided on how the paddle blank was created. Basic safety precautions and carving techniques will be reviewed to ensure that you are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge. Then, it will be time for you to transform your paddle blank into a finished Greenland paddle.
